Responsibilities & Services
The Sweetwater County Treasurer’s Office receives all revenues belonging to the county. Major duties are tax collector and head of the treasury. Other responsibilities charged to the treasurer are disbursing payments for county obligations on county warrants and investing unencumbered funds in accordance with the County Investment Policy.
The office has two major sections, Ad Valorem Tax (also known as property tax) and motor vehicles. The Ad Valorem Tax section is responsible for the billing and collection of commercial, residential, and personal property taxes. The motor vehicle section issues license plates and collects sales tax on motor vehicles. The staff of the Treasurer’s Office is cross trained for better efficiency to help serve the residents of Sweetwater County.
